Chords and Keys Music Camp
Chords and Keys Music Camp offers individualized music experiences specifically for special needs students. An individualized support plan based on multidimensional assessment data derived from aptitude testing, music skill assessments, behavioral, and academic data from school and home is developed for each student. The overall goal of the program is for students to develop musical, academic, behavioral, and/or social goals through a broad range of musical experiences. Students will be given a private lesson each day on an instrument of their choice. Other music experiences will include instrument playing (piano, xylophones, drums, and various percussion instruments), singing, composing, reading music, improvising, and music movement. (All music experiences are modified to meet the developmental needs of each student.) Students will explore the orchestral instrument families and learn about the instruments on a “Sound Scavenger Hunt” to a local music store. Students will design and create their own instrument. The camp will conclude with a community outreach field trip to a nursing home.
